Tigers at Risk of Being Wiped off the Earth
Can you imagine a world in which children never have the chance to see a live tiger with their own eyes? If the people in this world don’t protect the rain forest and these giant cats from poachers in south-east Asia, they will continue to kill hundreds of tigers every year. Below, you will read about what’s happening and what you can do to help stop it.
Tigers population numbers are going down, and quickly. Over time, Tigers have lost 97% of their historical range (wwf.panda.org). With as little as about 3,200 left in the world, we need to increase and strengthen their habitat and protecting them from poachers (tigersincrisis.com). Only thirteen countries in the entire world can proudly say that they have wild tigers within their borders (allaboutwildlife.com). Not only are tigers beautiful and fascinating creatures, they are a vital piece of the food chain in rain forests.
The main reason tigers are going extinct is because of poachers in south-eastern Asia, selling their pelts, using their bones for medicine (tigersincrisis.com). The Chinese have been hunting tigers, using multiple different techniques, all to use their bones as an ancient medicine, in which has never been proven to work (wwf.panda.org). It’s awful people feel the need to kill such beautiful creatures such as the tiger for something that not only might not work, but is causing a big problem in the world today. If you proceed to kill so many of these large cats, it’s going to get to the point in which there isn’t going to be any left to make this so called “medicine”. It doesn’t make sense to do that to your world, and even more dramatic, the people around you.
The solution not only I came up with, but WWF, a world wide wildlife program to help endangered species, has thought of the idea to save the rain forest as a start to saving tigers. Studies have shown that by saving one tiger, you can protect around 100 sq km of forest (wwf.panda.org). Both tigers and rain forests are important in this world because with the tigers keeping the cycle of life going by hunting, and the forest housing all types of animals, without them the world could suffer. I personally would be willing to do something towards helping these gorgeous and ferocious creatures from going extinct. The people need to work together to help stop people from poaching, not only tigers, but other animals vital to the balance of wildlife.
People need to work together to save these animals, before it’s too late. With numbers rapidly going down, tigers can’t save themselves without our help. Poachers need to be kept from killing them, and the rain forest needs our help to keep poachers out.
